.Preity Zinta introduced herself in Dil Se (August 21, 1998) as a supporting role. Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Manisha Koirala, the latter played Preeti Nair as well; a middle-class girl who was to marry Bahadur (Khan). Though she had already shot for Soldier and Kya Kehna, a series of scheduling conflicts caused the release order to be reversed until Dil Se.. was her first opening.
Initially signed for Kya Kehna, the role was going to go to Preity Zinta, however as Ramesh Taurani explained “we were approached by Aziz Mirza and Juhi Chawla when they decided that a south Indian actress would be best suited”. Just Sah Rukh Khan and Mani Ratnam both insisted that Dil Se.. should be released first, thereby making the film as Zinta’s debut rather than her earlier releases.
Zinta won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut after her performance in Dil Se.. was critically acclaimed. Featuring music by A. R Rahman, the film depicted love in times of political turmoil within Assam, India. This debut started a career in Hindi cinema of several Zinta.
