KK was born on August 23, 1968 in Delhi to a Malayali family from Thrissur Kerala. His father C S Nair worked in a private firm, while his mother Kunnath Kanakavalli was an accomplished musician. From a young age KK had been passionate about music, he inherited his love of it from the way his mother tried to manage her own musical career. He is completed his college from one of the colleges in Delhi University ie, Kirori Mal College, and after that worked for some time before leaving it to become a singer.
KK,who became well known as a playback singer in Bollywood and regional films during 1994, performed over 500 jingles before breaking into movies. Only two years down the road, 1996 had him take on playback singing in Maachis with Chhod Aaye Hum. From his iconic rendition of Tadap Tadap in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) which would become a calling card that bestowed on him one of the most soulful voices in film music to forging an illustrious career spanning 20 years.

KK was performing live in Kolkata on May 31, 2022 and started feeling uneasy post his performance reportedly after which the singer headed back to his hotel room only to die of cardiac arrest later during treatment. He was taken to hospital but died soon after arriving. Medical records later showed serious blockages in his coronary arteries, and cited work stress as a possible contributory factor. The loss of KK’s incredible voice left a gaping hole that the world is still mourning over.
