In the movie Queen, Kangana Ranaut is in the lead role of Rani Mehra, a young girl whose life changes unexpectedly when her fiancé Vijay (Rajkummar Rao) cancels their wedding just a few days before marriage. Heartbroken and insecure, Rani goes alone on their honeymoon to Paris & Amsterdam. Paris Adventures: New Friends & Wild Nights
Rani meets Vijayalakshmi (Lisa Haydon), a carefree, fun-loving woman of French-Indian-Spanish origin in whose house she ends up coming to live. Rani is then placed under the wing of Vijayalakshmi, who works at a hotel where Rani stays and helps her to an entirely new city. Rani quickly finds herself meeting new experiences she had not thought of, dancing, drinking parties and leaving the limitations that Vijay put on her behind him.
Initially flustered, Rani starts to take ownership of this newfound feeling of liberation courtesy of her Vijayalakshmi. An amusing instance is when Rani, in an uncharacteristic moment of frivolity, sends a nude photo to Vijay just by chance, which sets his imagination on fire again! But Rani is too busy revelling in her new love to allow any of it to impact her vacation.
Amsterdam Adventures; Cross-Cultural Friendships
Rani bids farewell to Vijayalakshmi with a heart full of emotions and heads on her road trip alone towards Amsterdam, where more adventure awaits. She shares a room at the hostel with three guys: Taka from Japan, Tim from France and Aleksey Oleksander Makarenko. Rani is at first wary but soon befriends them, and together, they wander the city — going to stores, a church service and even a pole-dancing club.
The more she learns about other cultures and gains new friends, the more Rani grows in confidence. Heck, she even takes first place in a cooking contest with her Indian golf crap (or what we call goll gapa) by proudly declaring that “Not only do Indians make great livers but world-class kissers too!” We see her have a first kiss, and it is with an Italian, which was all part of the confidence she needed to become comfortable being herself.
FINDING YOUR MIDDLE — PART 6 — CONFRONTATION
Vijay arrives in Amsterdam, where Rani is, and asks her to forgive him for his bad behaviour, hoping they can rekindle their relationship. But Rani’s new friends stay with her, and she confidently tells Vijay they will decide their future when she returns to Delhi.
Rani returns home and meets Vijay, but then, after a smile, she puts the ring in his hand and walks away. Then, she realized Vijay had done her a huge favour by rejecting and breaking up with him, and his decision freed her into the world to make new friends and become an independent woman. Going solo to Paris and Amsterdam made her from a shy, unsure girl into a tough woman.
